Here Comes the Bride

Over Christmas break I had this ridiculous idea to get out my wedding dress. I was thinking about how much it cost and that I only wore it one day! My whole family was together so I talked my sisters and my mom into getting out our dresses and having a fashion show! We laughed so hard putting our dresses on and remembering our wedding days. I think my Mom is just the cutest, her dress fit her perfectly! After that, we put them all back in the closet. Who knows when they will surface again.

I miss this little guy!

This adorable little man is my nephew. My sister moved away from Chicago last month and took this precious little guy with her. We are happy for them that they are starting something new in life, but sad for our loss. We miss them all so much! Come visit soon!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Brandon and I both had to work this Thanksgiving so traveling to be with family was out of the question. We decided to host Thanksgiving dinner at our place. We were joined by my sister, her husband, their new baby Wes, and our friend Cyril. I got up at 6:30 to put in the turkey. My first turkey ever! It cooked beautifully.

We spent the day cozy in our apartment eating good food and celebrating all that we have to be thankful for. Brandon and I both enjoyed snuggling our new nephew who is such a blessing. Brandon is at work now until 2 am. I just had my second piece of pumpkin pie. What a grand day! Tomorrow we put up our tree. I love this time of year.

Family

The baby is here! After a really rough labor and delivery I have a new nephew. He is blonde and adorable. I got to hold him tonight and he is just incredible. I am so grateful to have this new addition to our family.
My Mom, older sister, and her kids are also in town. In between hospital visits we saw lots of Chicago. We took the kids to the Shedd Aquarium, Lincoln Park Zoo, and the Chicago Children's Museum. It was busy but so fun.
Today is Haley's 2nd birthday. She got to pick out a bitty baby (I think thats what it is?) at the American Girl Store. Haley was so excited!
It has been a weekend filled with blessings. We have so much to be thankful for. Pictures of new baby will be forthcoming when we get parental consent.

Baby on the Way!

My sister is in the hospital working hard to bring my new niece or nephew into the world. We got a text at 3 am from my Bro-in-law that they were at the hospital. No news yet! My mom, my sister, and her kids are all on their way here. I cannot wait! Pictures to come soon!

Family Visit

My parents came to visit last weekend. As usual, we had a great time. We ate at three really great restaurants and had great conversation. We also celebrated at a baby shower for my sister and her little one that will be here so soon! I always love when my parents come to visit.

Patricia Anne Wood-Mick: 1924 - 2007

Tomorrow we will be heading to central Iowa. We are going to bury my grandmother. She battled a plethora of cancers over the recent years. She fought hard, but lost the war on Friday night. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by her boys (my three uncles and my dad) and her husband, Bernard (of 59 years).

Abe and I had the privilege of saying good-bye to her last weekend. Though she was tired, she was perfectly clear in her love for us. And though her voice was failing, she told me she was proud of me. I mostly just sat next to her and held her withering hand. But as I walked out of the room for the last time, tears streaming down my face, she belted out a strong and hearty, "Buh, Bye!" It echoes in my soul.

It was the same "Buh, Bye!" that I'd heard thousands of times growing up. You see, of all my dad's brothers, he was the only one that settled down out of town. So we'd have to travel a couple of hours to be with my grandparents. That being the case, we had to say "Buh, Bye" an awful lot. I've been saying "Buh,Bye" to this woman my entire life. And I'm sure that when I was really young, those "Buh, Bye's" stung. But growing up, through the adolescent years and beyond, I became used to them. It was just that time when my grandma would follow me to the curb, remind me to buckle-up, tell me to get some Coke or something to keep awake, warn me to watch out for the "other guy," tell me that she loved me. And as I'd pull away, inevitably with the window down, I would hear her call out, "Buh, Bye!" But it would barely register.

Until last week. She called out and I knew. All the years came rushing back to me. And it stung.

Please pray for my family. My grandmother was incredibly important to us all. Pray especially for my grandpa. I can't even begin to fathom the depth of his loss and the breadth of his grief.

Going Camping!

It has been a busy week for us. Brandon is in class this week so I am remembering what it is like to have a husband who is a student. I think we have seen each other for maybe 5 hours this week. Which makes it even better that we are leaving town tomorrow after Brandon gets out of class. We are headed to Mirror Lake, Wisconsin to go camping with the whole Mick family. I am really not much of a camper so this could be really interesting. The last time Brandon took me camping was with Epoch at Valley. I told Brandon after that night I would never camp again because, quite simply, I am not a camper. I am sure we will have pictures and good stories come Monday night.

Another Year Older!

We had a great holiday weekend. Brandon's mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law, and nephew all came to visit us. Brandon's parents brought Lucy with them so we got to have her visit us for the first time since we moved. It was a busy weekend full of sight seeing and eating. It was really fun to take our nephew to the zoo and watch him with all the animals, he is so big now and such a doll.
Monday we celebrated Brandon's 28 birthday, he is old! Brandon hates birthdays, but I know it meant a lot to him that his family was here to share it with him.
Brandon got back tonight from a trip to Iowa, he had a great time catching up with friends. I leave on Friday to go to Minneapolis for a work conference.
I will try to post some pictures of what we have been up to. I still haven't put any up of our new apartment but will try to soon.

Full Weekend

We went to Iowa this weekend. We left Chicago on Thursday afternoon and returned today. We were busy from the minute we left town, but it was so good.
Thursday night we spent time with old friends catching up. It was such a comfort to be with friends who know us deeply and care about us just as deeply.
Friday night we celebrated my nephew Jacob's 6th birthday. I cannot believe what a kind, wonderful boy he is. We ate good food at my Mom and Dad's house, and enjoyed some much needed laughter.
Saturday we met up with Brandon's side of the family to celebrate Easter and have a bridal shower for his sister who will be married in two weeks! We got to spend some time with our three sweet nephews who are growing so fast! Lucy was glad to see us and we were glad to see her! I don't have any pictures from this weekend since I forgot my camera. Bummer. It was not exactly a restful weekend, but it was full of time with people that we love dearly.
Happy Easter!

Christmas Travels!

I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas. We had a great time. My parents came to Chicago to spend the holiday with us. We were really busy the entire time, but it was so much fun. It was a perfect time of eating good food, seeing Chicago, shoppping, playing games, and laughing.

We also spent some time with my sister, Allison, and her family. We got to attend my nephew's Christmas performance at his school. We had a really fun time with Allison's family. Her kids make us laugh so hard. I got my hair highlighted while visiting them, so I am no longer a brunette...I am so happy to be blonde again. We went on a double date and had so much fun catching up with Ty and Alli.

Before heading to see my sister, we spent time with Brandon's family. We celebrated Christmas with the Mick's. Christmas was extra special this year due to three new babies! It was so fun to be around our nephews who are 6 mo. and 9 mo.

After a few quiet days in Chicago we leave again tomorrow to head to Des Moines for two weddings.

One Semester Down!

Today was the last day that students were allowed to be on campus for the fall semester. The second floor (where we live) of the girls dorm is a ghost town. I cannot believe that my first semester here is over. It went so fast. One of the perks of my job is that I do not have to work over breaks. My fellow RS's and I split up the total days of winter break to be "on duty". My days are the 24-27th of December. So, Brandon and I are taking off tomorrow for time with family. Here is our schedule for the next couple weeks. If we are going to be near any of you and you want to see us, call and we will try to work it out!

December 15-18 Christmas with the Mick's
December 19-21 Lincoln, NE to see the Thomas Family
December 21 Over night in Des Moines
December 22-27 Chicago....Christmas with my parents and "duty"
December 28-1 Des Moines for two weddings ( you know who you are!!)
January 1 Back to Chicago
